And people say the traffic is bad, roads are congested and that there's nowhere to drive for pleasure of just driving these days, unless it's 4am and you are not on motorway which is limited or close at this time (again because of health and safety in the road works which are not being carried at this time). It's not true - there is plenty of good driving roads in Britain (and I'm sure in other countries too) these days. There's A and B roads just asking for being explored. All you need to do is to turn off your sat-nav and start exploring. Use map, let your intuition to do the job...and just drive!
When few years ago we have started to exploring beautiful places in Britain, of course using car as the only mode of transport; I insisted on not using motorway unless it was the only option (which is rare). Simply took the road atlas everywhere, studied the route before setting off and then sometimes corrected the route, while on the move. These were the best journeys we have ever had. Always some new exciting ways to get to all those nice places. Like on above picture - The Sneak Pass, Peak District. This is one of these great roads in UK and trust me - there's many many more roads with views like this one, challenging and pleasure to drive. White Way Heads from Pickering to Whitby - just one of many great roads through North York Moors National Park. I could go on and on wrtiting names or road numbers here, but it's up to you really where you want to go - just choose the right one. It's not always about how fast you get there, if it was I'd never use the map in digital times of today, just rely on sat-nav with traffic warnings. But I like to drive, not just being told what to do by cold voice of device, which very often decides to be clueless after leading you to dead end.
Someone recently was writing something about good roads in UK and shared one of them on Twitter with the link to full article, I was amazed by immediate responses for this tweet. One of them was something like "I'm living not far from A*** (whatever the road number was) and it's packed with traffic at 4pm" (or whatever the time was). And answers like this are simply daft. If the person who wrote the article was happy after driving on this road, why would you ruin it with your stupid traffic updates. Manchester Road from Huddersfield towards Manchester is often packed with traffic (usually twice a day), that does not ruin the whole road for someone who's visiting it during the weekend. And finally if the caravan or lorry is being driven on the good stretch of tarmac it can ruin the experience, however no one says that you cannot turn around and drive on this road again, if it was so good. The experience is purely up to you, so don't expect, don't think about it to much, because you can turn it to bad one just by applying wrong thoughts. People are stuck in traffic in same places over and over again as they are expecting the traffic at these places. I was driving to work 15 miles away and many times I was stuck in traffic. But as soon as I've came up with idea of trying new roads leading to the same place - even a bit of traffic wasn't bad, as I have enjoyed seeing new places. Just ask yourself a question if you really like driving, if you do - there's nothing to stop you from having good time. Unless you are in a rush, take a map and point you finger at the place you would like to see, then drive there via uncommon roads. I guarantee you extraordinary trip every time you do this.
