Now, the garden... oh, it is not easy this year, after really good holiday season last year, we hoped for more. At the moment the garden lives it's own life - some plants are growing very slow (in comparison to last year), some don't grow at all and others - like grass and weeds on it - growing like mad. I had 2 attempts at radish and so far this second one is not looking great - due to lack of constant sunshine. Tomato plants this year are growing, but slower than last time as well. Apart from that there's not much to be proud of yet. Flowers were either eaten by bugs or soaked and devastated by rain. So I better stop complaining and pray with hope for better July and August...and if the Sun will not come here, we will chase it, whatever it takes to feel the Summer! :)
Apparently the Summer is already here... we couldn't notice it in the last 2 or 3 weeks, as the rainfall has reached the peak. There was more rain in 2 weeks than in past 2 months altogether. Obviously we cannot complain as some parts of Europe (France for example) has experienced the floods, while we were safe in high altitudes of Yorkshire, UK. However the moods were down a bit, partly as it was hard to get out anywhere without being soaked in water, and partly due to overall greyness and darkness around. It is much better now, this week temperatures are touching over 20 Celsius. Sun is still very shy here, but it is a massive improvement and hopefully it will stay bright and warm for longer this time (while writing this I've noticed that sky is covered with greyish cloud and it's not that bright any more...). I'm craving for proper Summer, hot and breezy. This must be result of recent skype calls to families all over the globe, as there was Sun blinding us through the camera from everywhere we called recently... at least they can enjoy the Summer, perhaps we have to wait a bit more for Sun here in UK, or getaway to some nice place in Europe. I like this picture very much. It reminds me about warm days at work...and exciting evenings when coming back from work. Days at work might not have been something to look for, especially when the Sun was at peak and there was no other thing in builders mind, than a cold beer (day dreaming). But going to and coming back from work -back then was always something good, the car made it so special. No ordinary white van, nothing in this shape and nothing with rattly paraffin burner under the bonnet. Our works van was the best car for the job I can imagine. Though we could not fit any plaster boards or pipes, but most of tools, buckets of paint and most important for the builder - the lunch - were all fitting nicely, always. If we didn't have this car to go to & back from work, all days would have been same, boring. Getting up at 5:30 in the morning and setting off to work just about 6am to beat the London traffic was at least sweeten by this car. The BMW E36 - 320i, straight six Vanos, red coupe. Perfect builders van! - back then... -nowadays I wouldn't even thought of fitting any tools or paint buckets in a car like this, if I had one now.
Car like this gives you quite an edge over other builders vans - sweet six cylinder, maybe not the most powerful (150bhp), but smooth and pulling much better than any diesel back then, also sounding just perfect for me. So in the morning it was a drive to wake up properly before work. And at the evening, even the worst of London traffic couldn't wipe my smile. Nice car, nice engine, nice colour too, quite good stereo, going back home to rest - best things, even better on Fridays. Picture was taken at 19:27 (I was the passenger this time), on a sunny evening in June (in the mirror is another E36 that was following / chasing us:) That's why I remember all the goodness, no boring things from work. When the weather is good, you are feeling good and you got something that excites you - even the smallest thing or task, you'll always remember this, you'll always remember the day. Driving this car was always a pleasure, no matter where. It was always like a reward. And despite few blemishes, a lot of miles on the clock and age (1992), this car has never ever broken down. It has done a fair bit of it's life in London, was used as a builders van before we have used it for the same purpose, has done a lot of motorways as well and most important it took a safe, pleasure journey around Europe and back to UK (over 3000 miles in almost one shot). I would cherish the E36 like that one - If I had one now. The values of these cars slowly raised in past two years, as they become rarer, especially coupes (the best shape, with famous frame-less windows). Our one, unfortunately, has not survived the accident few years ago, but most important was that my dad had survived it, without injuries at all - the car has done it's best to protect life. If I ever have a chance, I will buy any E36 in good shape with straight 6 engine. It is a good investment now, very good investment indeed as this year they are reaching prices not in hundreds but in thousands. But for me this is one of the best BMW's ever made, still stylish (the coupe) and the real driver's car, the one that you'll never be bored of. If you have got few thousands to spend on future classic, or fairly good shape project - get one, get it and love it, save the E36! My daughter loves sun, also since she had noticed them - she likes shadows of people and objects on sunny days.
When it's raining or it's just a gloomy day without enough sunshine to see the shadows, when we walking, she'll say that "shadows are hiding, because it's cold and grey and 'they' do like sunshine, like we do". When it's sunny we are running and "checking if they are running with us" :) Or we will make some strange poses when walking to see how our shadows following us. She is very funny with these shadow-games. When she was younger and first noticed the shadows, she would ask endless questions where do 'they' come from and ever-present 'WHY?' (our favourite of all times...). She know more now, I think that she understands the fact, that when the Sun is shining above us, then 'we are leaving the shadows' around us. Above is the first photo of 'our' shadows that I have took when she was just 2 years old. We were walking, but she noticed 'it', so we stood still, as I wanted to explain her this phenomenon (a little bit, in simple words). I also wanted to take this picture, but before I even reached for the camera, my daughter was saying "daddy take the picture of shadows!" So there it was, our first ever picture of our 'first' spotted shadows. Since then, when we walking along, there's always the moment to say something about visible or invisible (due to weather) shadows. Below for a change is this year's picture of our 'long' shadows. She is 4 year old now. We were walking from the local shop, down the hill, so our shadows undergone some 'stretching'. She spotted this very quickly and said "look daddy, how big our shadows are!". And I was well prepared this time as well - I had my compact camera, she knew that. So I was instructed to take the picture! :) And then of course, I was told that I took a nice picture;) After not very cold but quite wet Winter, after hail showers and snow-sleet fall at the end of April - finally the good, warm weather arrived to Yorkshire, UK.
Hopefully the sunshine will stay here or long and it's not only few days heatwave... we need Sun, so as the plants in our gardens. The salad leaves and the tomatoes are germinating later than last year, because it was simply to cold and not enough Sun yet. But just now, when much needed warm energy is causing some of thermometers to go mad - the first little sprouts appearing, causing me smile. I hope for good harvest, as last year tomatoes were superb, having enough Sun we picked the last ones in very late September and beginning of October. However I'm not going to go for large amounts this year, as last one proved that apart from the Sun they also need a lot of care and looking after everyday. And this year we need to go and visit 'places', some countries in the continental Europe where the weather should be great as well. I wish that in this September I can show you pictures of tomatoes and other goodies from the garden, along with great shots from France and few other countries around. So far, few up-to-date pics of this Spring - below. Sometimes we all experience 'darker' days, when everything is wrong and nothing seems to work... whatever happens we need to remember that finding joy and happiness is not that hard, we can just look around us and appreciate what we have already. And that the bad as well as positive feelings are coming solely from within us - not from environment around or anyone else. We just need to look beyond all that seems to be 'wrong', see the positive side of everything - even if it's something very bad that bothers you - think about it... there must be at least one positive in this situation, person, thing... You can turn any bad day to good day! Enjoy every-day! It's giving us the warmth, giving the light, it makes us smile and makes us feel good. Sun gives us energy to live - like it gives the energy to plants, so they can grow. Sun gives us a lot, even when we can see only the clouds above us. morze w lecie czasami ma niesamowity kolor, oczy bolą a dalej chce się patrzyć :)
