When it's raining or it's just a gloomy day without enough sunshine to see the shadows, when we walking, she'll say that "shadows are hiding, because it's cold and grey and 'they' do like sunshine, like we do".
When it's sunny we are running and "checking if they are running with us" :) Or we will make some strange poses when walking to see how our shadows following us. She is very funny with these shadow-games. When she was younger and first noticed the shadows, she would ask endless questions where do 'they' come from and ever-present 'WHY?' (our favourite of all times...). She know more now, I think that she understands the fact, that when the Sun is shining above us, then 'we are leaving the shadows' around us. Above is the first photo of 'our' shadows that I have took when she was just 2 years old. We were walking, but she noticed 'it', so we stood still, as I wanted to explain her this phenomenon (a little bit, in simple words).
I also wanted to take this picture, but before I even reached for the camera, my daughter was saying "daddy take the picture of shadows!" So there it was, our first ever picture of our 'first' spotted shadows. Since then, when we walking along, there's always the moment to say something about visible or invisible (due to weather) shadows.
Below for a change is this year's picture of our 'long' shadows. She is 4 year old now. We were walking from the local shop, down the hill, so our shadows undergone some 'stretching'. She spotted this very quickly and said "look daddy, how big our shadows are!". And I was well prepared this time as well - I had my compact camera, she knew that. So I was instructed to take the picture! :) And then of course, I was told that I took a nice picture;)
