The history of this basic food can be confusing, but from the pancakes that I know comes another dish - krokiety, or in English - croquettes. And this is another very tasty mystery. Croquettes, again - as pancakes - are something completely different in many countries, different to what I know. 'Our' are quite simply made based on pancakes/crepes filled with (usually vegetable) stuffing and fried in breadcrumbs. Most often, in the version that I know, stuffing is made from sauerkraut and mushrooms - therefore I will not argue if this is a dish from Poland, Czech, or maybe even Germany. The history of this dish, 'krokiety', is unknown for me and judging by questions commonly asked in 'the Internet' - must be unknown for many.
But this is very tasty, delicious meal, that everyone who don't like sauerkraut should try! you probably even don't know how good is fried sauerkraut with onions and mushrooms (wild mushrooms hand picked in forest are even better for it).
I will leave you with pictures from making this speciality, if you like it here - but don't like the sauerkraut - try any other savoury or spicy filling - it's great for dinner, but even better as a snack for the party. Hot or cold, goes very well with beer:)
